Cheap meals on the go, on the road and at the campsite !

Cheap meals for short & long term camping?

Some of you or perhaps many of you won't consider this or even find it the least bit funny.

However, being from Pennsylvania, the state with the most deer in the country and the most road kills in the country I have taken a fresh deer road kill home, butchered it, wraped it up then froze it and had many a great venison dinners over the years.

To me the first secret is not to pick up roadkill that has already been made into hamburger like something hit by a big rig. The second secret it to get a fresh one, it still has to be warm with no rigormortis set in. The final secret is to not be greedy. Keep only the meat that wasn't damaged. Road kill has also provided me with plenty of deer bologna over the years too. YUM!

One of my best road kill dinners was at a pizza shop in Red Lion, PA. The owner who I knew well told me one day "Mike I have a special for you and it's on the house". Free food, you betcha! So I sat down, he brought me out a plate with some Italian bread and said "Eat up Paison and Enjoy". Looked like Chicken cacciatore to me and it was good. After my meal he asked how I liked it. I told him the truth, it was good. He told me it was made from the Pheasant that hit his car grill on the way to work this morning. Hmmmmmm, not the surprise I was expecting but it was good.

So I am not going to review any recipies for you using road kill but I will show you where you can get more info and lots of "great" recipies using roadkill. ENJOY !

It's not for everyone but I know some of you are the outdoorsy pioneer types.

I understand that the cookbook is as much of a work of humor (hear a hint of Jeff Foxworthy type of humor) as it is an informtive cookbook so if you don't want to hone your survival skills at least you can have a few laughs before "lights out".
