Here Is What WE Say About It:

Decisions, decisions. There are so many different tent heaters out there from big to small, propane and butane. There are more of the smaller varieties and the majority of them are propane. So, what do you do? Does this Butane heater fit the bill? I got this one online for about $50.

I just happened to have 6 popular models of tent heaters in my camp supply and having used them all, I'll let you know which one or ones are my favorites

This is the 6th tent heater that I've purchased. Why, because I am always looking for the best equipment that fits my needs for my camping gear and I HATE a cold tent! This Tooluxe Butane heater takes up less space than most other "full sized" heaters in your Jeep and tent. It will operate on BOTH butane and butane mixed with propane (with the included connector) giving it great utility.

I prefer Butane cooking stoves when camping because they are lightweight, compact and because Butane burns about 12% more efficient than propane it takes less to do more. Butane is packaged at a much lower pressure than propane. Because of the low pressure and the lower volume of butane in a cannister than propane, a butane leak, unlike propane is very unlikely to cause an explosion. Something good to know when your gear is bouncing around in the back of your Jeep. To top off the cake Butane is cheaper than propane. Your typical 1 lb propane bottle at a discount store will set you back $3.00 I've bought 228 gr. butane bottles for this heater and my camp stoves for $1.05 each. One last thing that needs mentioning. It doesn't affect us much here in Arizona and I don't think that too many of our members want to camp in freezing temps but Butane will start freezing up below 32 degrees. As the temps dip below 32 it will become more difficult to butane to flow out of the bottle so keep that in mind if you plan on being in below freezing temps (we talked about an overnight snow run to the Grand Canyon on the Moqui Stage Route but there were no takers - no problem driving in the snow but no one wanted to camp in the snow). If you are going to camp below 32 degrees, bring some butane mixed with propane bottles and run your heater on butane/propane mixture with the included adapter.

I'll admit, my testing is NOT scientific but it was real world. You don't need a lab to see how and if things will work for you, if they work when you are camping when they should work and work right then that's really all you need to know.

So am I happy with this heater? Absolutely! It does the job they say it will which is an important consideration. It will keep you comfortable on a cold spring or fall night (or even a winter night) and in a large tent too. It will operate on both butane and butane/propane mixed which makes it pretty handy. If you believe the claim that it is the safest heater made, then the decision to buy one of these should be pretty simple, it's also one of the best priced heaters too!

Bottom line is this would by my 2nd choice of heater for my tent. My 1st choice if I didn't have the room for a Big Buddy Heater. It is fairly compact and will keep your tent warm. You are going to have to get up at least once to switch out butane bottle (or connect an external butane/propane mixture bottle for double the run time) but it is a small price to pay for the size, heat and convenience of this unit. It is safe to operate, butane is cheaper and if you need butane at the last minute and can't find it at the local convenience store, you can still use the butane/propane mix (popular with backpackers and used with the mini stoves) in a pinch!

Below you will see all the different types of canisters you can use to fuel this heater. The first two show examples of the butane can that fits inside the heater. The others are a 70% Butane 30% Propane mixture, all of which will requiret an adapter hose to use with this heater.
