IWATANI 35FW BUTANE STOVE

Review by Mike Fissel - As Seen in "JP Freek Adventure Magazine"     www.jpfreek.com

Here Is What THEY Say About It:

Iwatani Corporation of America 35FW Portable Butane Stove: Equipment Image

  • Super High Power 15,000 BTU STOVE
  • Magnetic Locking System
  • Carrying Case
  • Built in Windbreaker
  • Brass Burner
  • Aluminum Construction
  • Automatic Safety Stop

Here Is What WE Say About It Equipment Image

Since my camping days in the Scouts long ago to my camping days now it is safe to say that I have used dozens of stoves for cooking. From my first Coleman stove that used "white" gas and you had to pressurize it to some expensive propane models and finally a few butane models. It's hard to believe that it took me over 40 years to find a stove that I truly like and now use all the time.

I first saw the Iwatani 35FW stove looking at butane stoves on a famous online auction site. The 35FW was the most expensive butane stove on the site and I wondered why. It did look well build and unlike most other stoves I've seen or used, this one had built in wind protection. Like any normal person I do an online search to get more information and was impressed enough with what I saw to try one out.

Iwatani is well known for their high quality, reliable cooking products. This stove has a super high power 15,000 btu rating more than twice that of other butane stoves. The built in wind screen is great for the outdoors and helps save on fuel by keeping the flame on your pan rather than horizontal out the side. It's made of aluminum instead of steel so it won't rust. The brass burner will outlast the typical cast burners and it has an automatic safety stop. To carry your stove in your rig, it comes with a plastic carry case.

My Iwatani is used in combination with a Cal-Mil Mission Stove Stand which makes for a perfect combination in my opinion. The stove is transported inside the stand with a terry cloth towel to keep it from getting scratched and the whole set up fits perfectly in a soft sided cooler for storage.

How does the stove work. With twice the heat of a cheap stove, water boils quickly and food comes up to temperature faster. Butane canisters load quickly and last an average of two hours each for cooking. The controls on the front are well marked and work smoothly. Out of all the stoves I've used in past I can't remember one that I liked more than the Iwatani 35FW. Compare this stove to one of the typical $30 to $40 ones side by side. You'll by the Iwatani.

If you'll only settle for the best, this stove is for you. You can find it for around $80 with free shipping on Amazon which is about $40 to $50 more than a cheap butane stove but feature for feature and performance wise, there is no comparison and it is $50 well spent.
