Here Is What WE Say About It:

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t use some type of lantern when camping. Lanterns give out more light than a flashlight over a larger area and come in “white gas/fuel”, propane and battery operated models.

With so many different Lanterns out there from big to small, propane, butane, battery and a few rechargeable what do you buy? I could end this reveiw real quick and tell you that I would not leave home with out my Northstar but would that be fair?

I own three lanterns for camping, 2 Coleman Northstar lanterns and 1 Coleman Rechargeable LED lantern.

Now as far as propane lanterns go, there is nothing better than a Coleman Northstar, it will light up your camp with its 1543 lumens turns night into day! The light output of this lantern is just short of incredible and is the brightest lantern by far of any that I have evern seen! One the low setting it puts out as much light as a typical gas lantern on high and will last all night long on one propane bottle to keep your camp lighted and safe. Understand that Coleman is not saying this I am. I have used Northstar lanterns for nearly 10 years now so I should say that my experience is doing all the talking here.

I am guessing part of the secret are the two wicks/mantles that run from top to bottom of the lantern. There isn't another out there like this which is probably the Northstar Lantern works like NO other! The included hard sided case will protect it during storing and travel and is the perfect accessory.

Are there any negative things to say about the Northstar? Actually none that are the fault of the lantern. I broke a globe one time when I accidently knocked it off a table (was able to buy a replacement globe at none other than Walmart), my fault. The other thing is that the wick/mantles are subject to disintergration if you bounce around long and hard enough on back roads (not the fault of the lantern, all mantles will do this no matter what light it is in). The good news is that spare mantles for the Northstar are available, again, at Walmart for a reasonable price. On a positive note, you can probably buy a Northstar at the lowest everyday price at Walmart too. Spare mantles fit in the carry case. I usually carry two sets.

So am I happy with this light? You haven't guessed it by now? Absolutely! It is the BEST lantern I've ever owned and SHOULD be your primary light for your camp. However if you are looking for a tent light, do as I did, get your self a Coleman Rechargeable LED lantern as the fumes from any propane lantern can be dangerous in closed places.

Bottom line is this is my 1st choice for a camp lantern. It will more than meet your lighting needs at camp. It will last all night long and more on low or over half the night on high. Give this one a blue ribbon too, WINNER !
