LifeStraw - "A Survival Must Have"

For years I have been writing about the necessity to be prepared for anything. The one item that no one can survive without is clean water. The lifeSraw is not only your best source for clean water in a wilderness survival situation, but could be the one and only item that saves your life.


What it the LifeStraw? Simply stated it's a tube that's about 9" long that you place into a wilderness water source to "suck up" clean water to survive on. The LifeStraw not only will clean up "dirty" water but it also filters out 99.9% of water borne bacteria and protozoa according to the manufacturer.

So how much water can you filter thru the LifeStraw? How about up to 264 gallons, way more than you could drink in days or even weeks waiting for rescue. Just place the LifeStraw about half way into a water source and use it like a straw for a nearly bacteria free source of clean water. It couldn't get any easier than that.

You're dying to know how the water tastes aren't you? I tried the LifeStraw in the Arizona desert (yep, you can even find water in the desert) by dipping it in a pool of water in the Salt River river bed. My first mouthful I spit out, only because I wanted to see how clean it looked (yes I was skeptical about drinking nasty water). Amazingly the murky water was not only clear but it tasted not too different than bottled water.

Bottom line, you need to invest $20 and make sure that one of these is in your survival kit or better yet, put a second one in your glove box too. This item is a non- negotiable MUST HAVE in your survival kit!
