Just One Example of a Custom JK Antenna Mount for the Tailgate.

There are plenty of ways and places to mount an antenna on your Jeep. Some mounts are generic and some are custom, it is up to you what kind of mount and antenna you want to use and where to mount it.

Having said that, the perfect place to mount an antenna on any vehicle is in the exact center of a metal roof. For Jeep owners that poses several problems, Wrangler tops are fiberglass and many Jeeps use roof racks and a center mounted antenna is going to be in the way of something. It also is fair to say that the higher your antenna is, the better perormance you will get out of your radio. On the other hand, a tall antenna is going to find its way into trees and brush on the trail. So for the most part the general rules of thumb are:

  • Antennas will generall work better in the center, front or rear of a vehicle
  • Many Jeep owners find that antennas mounted at the rear on either side or rear center work well
  • Dual or Co-Phased CB Antennas don't do well on Jeeps because they need to be 8ft or more apart to work properly
  • No Matter where you mount it, the antenna needs to be well grounded thru the mount
  • Buy a Mount AFTER you Decide where you are Going to Mount your Antenna that will work where you want to mount it.
  • Mount the antenna so that as much of the antenna extends beyond the roof as possible. If your roof is blocking most of our antenna, you will have poor transmit and recieve performance

Final Words There are literally hundreds of ways and places to mount an antenna on your Jeep. See what fellow Jeepers are doing. Do some Google Searches if you are looking for something unusual. Just remember the rules of thumb when you mount your antenna to your Jeep and you will get good performance from your radio.
