RADIO MOUNTING SUGGESTIONS

There are plenty of ways and places to mount a Radio your Jeep.


Having said that, I think the perfect place to mount a radio is on the dash or overhead. Mounted as such, they are easy to reach and operate plus easier to see without taking too much attention off the trail/road. I also find it helpful to mount an external speaker for each of my radios (CB and HAM) directly behind me on the roll bar. Makes them much easier to hear on a noisey trail or a noisey Jeep. I also avoid mounting it to the transmission hump, especially on the drivers side and under the dash especially on the drivers side. If you ever get scratched or bruised by a CB mounted to the side of the hump or under the dash, you will understand why. For the most part the my general rules of thumb are:

  • Radios are easier to operate if they are within easy reach and in a place where they are easy to see
  • Dash and overhead console, shelf, roll bar mounted radios are my favorite places
  • Mounted in a place where it won't interfere with other controls
  • Mounted in a place where you or your passenger aren't going to be hitting your legs on it.
  • Don't mount it under the seat or on the floor as if you get water in your Jeep your radio will get fried.
