COBRA 75 NW ST Compact/Remote Mount CB Radio w/ Weather & SoundTracker System

This is what THEY say about it:
Compact/Remote Mount CB Radio w/ Weather & SoundTracker Noise Reduction System

Image The 75 WX ST is a super compact hide-away Remote Mount design full featured CB radio with weather channels, ideal for vehicles where space is a premium. Plus instant access to channel 9 and 19, Dual -watch and all channel scan to monitor incoming signals, 4-channel programmable memory locations. The complete radio fits in your hand design.
  • Remote Mount System - Allows convenient dashboard installation.
  • SoundTracker® System - Cuts noise up to 90 percent for clearer communication.
  • NOAA Weather & Emergency Radio - Be prepared for storms and emergencies with built-in NOAA radio receiver.
  • Illuminated LCD Display - For bright and clear visibility of display.
  • Instant Channel 9/19 - Immediate access to emergency channel 9 or information channel 19.

Here Is What WE Say About It:

Image As CBs go, this one shares features with many other CBs such as Volume and Squelch controls, instant channel 9 switch (a worthless feature in my opinion as I don't know of too many people that monitor channel 9 and the CB really doesn't have the range to reach the typical 911 center), LCD panel for channel/other info and microphone. Having said that, Cobra CB Radios are an always have been my choice of CB Radio.

To this one you add the very useful NOAA Weather Radio channels and instant emergency feature plus the fact that it is compact and can be mounted anywhere. All the controls including the LCD screen are on the microphone making it perhaps handy.

Now all of those features sound good don't they? Yes they are but still this radio has a few shortcomings in my opinion. It's not my first choice for a CB in most Jeeps but if you are like me and have a Ham radio installed in your Jeep there isn't a lot of real estate left to mount another full size radio where it is convenient to see and operate without having to take you eyes off the road or trail. If this is your situation then this is a CB you should consider for your Jeep.
  • The LCD display is small I cannot read it without reading glasses shouldn't affect those of you under 40
  • The sound coming out of the speaker is sub standard, you NEED an external speaker
  • Even though the controls are all there on the microphone it still is a challenge to remember what is what and to work them while driving.
  • The print on the controls is small so get out those reading glasses again if you are over 40
If your situation requires a compact unit like this then buy it. One thing you won't need for some Jeeps are special mounting plates or brackets to get it up near the roof line (one of the better places to get a full size unit out of the way) and you won't have to fall back to mounting it on the dash. With this compact full featured CB you can mount the main unit behind the dash or under the center console and put a mount for the Mic/Control Unit on the dash or use a "mic keeper" to mount it elsewhere, like on the roof like mine.

I had this unit in a Wrangler for over 2 years and I am pleased with it's performace as a CB and the fact that most of the unit is mounted where you will never see or touch it. Not having an external speaker is NOT an option. Trust me, in the confines of a Jeep on the trail, the internal speaker will sound terrible or you might trouble hearing it at all. The terrible sound is not because it's a crappy radio, it's because its a very small speaker that you are trying to drive lots of sound through. Get an external speaker and mount it behind you on the roll bar. You will be pleased with the results.

Bottom line is if you are not as "blind as a bat" without reading glasses, this could be a very good radio for you especially if space for mounting is a problem. I've seen these in several JK Wranglers and unless you want to mount a full size CB up high with a special mount/bracket or on your dash, a full sized radio in a JK or even a TJ might not be an option. Mounting under the dash or along the transmission console/hump will definetly take a hit on the leg room and possibly bang some shins, it's also a recipe for disaster if you try to pay attention to the controls when you are driving. Remember, you will need an external speaker for sure if you want to hear this radio clearly.
